Proper cleaning and disinfection of soft contact lenses is essential for eye health and comfortable wear. Follow these steps every time you handle your lenses.
Step-by-Step Instructions

Wash and Dry Your Hands
Always wash your hands with soap and water before handling your lenses. Dry thoroughly with a lint-free towel to avoid introducing bacteria or debris to your eyes.

Remove One Lens at a Time
Remove one lens and place it in the palm of your clean hand. Always work with the same lens first to avoid mixing up left and right lenses.

Apply Contact Lens Solution
Place a few drops of fresh multipurpose contact lens solution onto the lens. Never use tap water, saliva, or saline-only solution for cleaning.

Rub the Lens Gently
Using your index finger, gently rub the lens in a back-and-forth motion against your palm for about 20 seconds. This 'rub and rinse' method removes deposits and microorganisms even with 'no-rub' solutions.

Rinse the Lens
Rinse the lens thoroughly with fresh contact lens solution to remove loosened debris and cleaning residue.

Place in a Clean Lens Case
Place the lens in a clean lens case filled with fresh solution. Never top off old solution — always empty, rinse, and refill with fresh solution each time.

Repeat for the Other Lens
Follow the same steps for your second lens. Allow lenses to soak for the minimum time recommended on your solution label before reinserting.

Clean Your Lens Case
After inserting your lenses, empty the used solution from the case, rub and rinse the case with fresh solution, and allow it to air dry face-down on a clean tissue. Replace your lens case every 1–3 months.
Important Reminders
- Never sleep in your lenses unless specifically prescribed for extended wear.
- Never wear lenses while swimming or in a hot tub.
- Replace your lenses on the schedule prescribed by your eye doctor.
- If your eyes are red, irritated, or your vision changes, remove your lenses and contact our office.
- Always carry a pair of glasses as a backup in case you need to remove your lenses.
